We are now in the closing chapter of the year 2016. Indeed, it has been a challenging and bumpy year in the shipping industry with the occurrence of many incidents. The commercial sector as well got the shock with the closure of one of the industry’s biggest shipping company , Hanjin shipping.
First and foremost is the ongoing process of the conceptualization of the so called “Unmanned Ships” which presently Norway and Sweden is spearheading the testing of these ships in their respective areas.
Another thing is the impending implementation of the STCW 2010 Manila Amendments on 1st Jan 2017 regarding the revised COC and related documentations and trainings of all the seafarers.
The IMO has already informed the Flags Administration, PSCO and other related bodies to give some sort of comfort by allowing those seafarers who are not in position of the revised COC under Manila amendments till 1st July 2017 to comply.
Likewise, in the offing is the implementation of one of the most awaited and probably controversial conventions in the maritime industry, the Ballast Water Management.
This convention will come into force on 08 September 2017. Again, there will be changes in managing the ballast system onboard with the additional fitting of approved ballast equipment.
So, guys brace yourself for these exciting changes in the maritime industry.
Meanwhile, let’s enjoy welcoming the new year (2017) with our loved ones !
Happy New Year to All!
